Construction costs up 7.6 per cent

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 7.6 per cent from December 2006 to December 2007. From November to December, the costs rose by 0.3 per cent.

The construction costs of detached houses of wood increased by 8.5 per cent, while multi-dwelling houses rose by 6.2 per cent from December 2006 to December 2007. The material costs of detached houses of wood and multi-dwelling houses increased by 11.2 and 7.9 per cent respectively in the same period. The high growth in material costs of detached houses of wood is due to the strong increase in prices of timber during the autumn of 2006 and the first half of 2007.
