Construction costs up by 7.2 per cent

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 7.2 per cent from February last year to February this year. The material costs rose by 7.9 per cent in the same period.

During the last twelve months the construction costs of detached houses of wood increased the most, by 7.6 per cent. The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses rose by 6.6 per cent.

From January to February this year, the total construction costs of residential buildings increased by 0.4 per cent, while the material costs rose by 0.2 per cent in the same period. Wage statistics for the fourth quarter of 2007 are included in the construction cost index for February 2008, and contributed to a labour cost increase by 0.8 per cent.
