Largest cost increase for multi-dwelling houses

The construction costs of multi-dwelling houses increased by 0.4 per cent from May to June this year, while detached houses of wood rose by 0.1 per cent in the same period.

The material costs of multi-dwelling houses increased by 0.8 per cent last month. The increase is mainly due to a strong increase in the price of steel. A reduction in the price of timber lead to an increase in the material costs of detached houses of wood of only 0.1 per cent in the same period.

 

From June last year to June this year the construction costs of multi-dwelling houses and detached houses of wood rose by 6.2 and 4.9 per cent respectively. The material costs of multi-dwelling houses increased by 5.7 per cent and detached houses of wood by 3.6 per cent.

The construction costs of residential buildings rose by 0.1 per cent from May to June this year, while the material costs increased by 0.3 per cent. From June 2007 to June 2008 the construction cost index rose by 5.4 per cent. The material costs rose by 4.4 per cent in the same period.

Material indices for timber, concrete and steel

As of July 10 the material indices for timber, concrete and steel are available in a separate table. These are materials with a low degree of processing and therefore sensitive to fluctuation in the prices of raw materials. The representative goods and their mutual weights are taken from the construction cost index for residential building. Together, these groups of materials have a weight of 13 per cent in the total material cost index for residential buildings.
