Moderate increase in construction costs (Corrected 18 March 2011)

The construction costs of residential buildings increased by 0.3 per cent from January to February this year. Labour costs rose by 0.6 per cent, while material costs rose by 0.1 per cent.

The building cost figures published on 10 March 2011 were too high due to an error in the calculation of the labour costs for some of the occupational groups included in the building cost indices. All figures in the text, apart from the material costs, have therefore been corrected. Corrections have also been made to tables, figures and in StatBank.

From January to February this year the construction costs of multi-dwelling houses increased by 0.5 per cent. The costs of detached houses of wood rose by 0.3 per cent.

Wage statistics for the fourth quarter of 2010 are included in the construction cost of February 2011.
