Steep rise in house prices

House prices increased by an average of 6.4 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2005 to the first quarter of 2006. Adjusted for seasonal variations, house prices increased by 2.8 per cent in the same period.

Prices of detached houses increased by 6.5 per cent during the last quarter, while prices of row houses and flats increased by 6.1 per and 6.4 per cent respectively. From the first quarter of 2005 to the first quarter of 2006, house prices increased by 9.3 per cent.

Prices per square metre in municipalities

Yearly average prices per square metre in Norway’s municipalities are now available in StatBank. The quarterly table for prices per square metre has also been expanded, and covers all municipalities with 20 000 inhabitants or more. Municipalities with less than 10 sales are not included.

A total of 15 379 sales are used in the calculation of the price index.
