House prices up 3.4 per cent

House prices increased on average by 3.4 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010, after two quarters at the same level.

Detached houses and row houses had the largest price increases, of 3.9 and 3.7 per cent from the fourth quarter last year to the first quarter this year respectively, while prices of flats in blocks became 1.5 per cent more expensive.

Row houses in Trondheim and the rest of Trøndelag had the strongest rise in prices in the last quarter, of 5.5 and 6.3 per cent respectively. Oslo with Bærum was the region with the lowest price growth, at 1.8 per cent in the same period.

Sharp increase in Stavanger last year

From the first quarter last year to the first quarter this year the house prices in Stavanger increased by 18.2 per cent. The other large cities experienced a higher growth in the house prices than the national average of 10.8 per cent.

A total of 16 669 house sales are used in the index computation for the first quarter of 2010.
