Decrease in house prices in Oslo and Akershus

After having fallen by 3.7 per cent in the third quarter of 2000, house prices in Oslo and Bærum fell by 1.8 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2000.

Also in Akershus (exclusive Bærum) and in the major cities of Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim the house prices decreased from the second to the fourth quarter of 2000. In the rest of the country house prices increased by 2.1 per cent in the fourth quarter after a decrease of 2.9 per cent in the third quarter.

The price index shows a small national rise in prices of 0.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2000. On annual basis, house prices are 10.1 higher than in the fourth quarter of 1999. In the third quarter of 2000 the year to year price increase was 12.5 per cent.

0.6 per cent change from preliminary figures

The overall price index for second hand dwellings shows a 1.2 per cent higher price increase from the fourth quarter of 1999 to the fourth quarter of 2000 compared with preliminary figures published on 16 March 2001.
