House prices up 6.3 per cent

House prices rose by 6.3 per cent from the first to the second quarter of this year and are now an average of 17 per cent higher than the same time last year.

Price index, secondhand dwellings, second quarter 2000

The price index figures from Statistics Norway show an increase of about 8 per cent in Oslo and Bærum as well as the major cities of Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim, from the first to the second quarter of this year. During the same period, prices in the rest of Akershus rose by 7.4 per cent, while house prices in general increased by 5.4 per cent.

Flats in Oslo 28.3 per cent more expensive

House prices in Oslo and Akershus are now 24.1 and 23.0 per cent higher, respectively, than in the second quarter of last year. Prices of flats in Oslo have risen by 28.3 per cent, while the price increase for detached houses and row-houses was 13.4 and 20.1 per cent respectively. In the major cities of Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim, prices rose by 21.1 per cent from the second quarter of last year to the second quarter of this year. House prices in general increased an average of 13.8 per cent in this period.

NOK 21 000 per square metre

The highest prices of flats was set in Oslo in the second quarter of this year, with NOK 21 171 per square metre of utility floor space. Average square metre price for flats in Akershus was NOK 16 865.

The highest prices for detached houses was also set in the second quarter in Oslo and Akershus, with an average square metre price of NOK 16 151 and 10 775 respectively. The least expensive detached houses were sold in Nord-Trøndelag and Finnmark, with an average of NOK 5 134 and 4 674 per square metre of utility floor space.

0.7 per cent change from preliminary figures

The overall price index for secondhand dwellings shows a 0.7 per cent lower price increase from second quarter 1999 to second quarter 2000 compared with preliminary figures published on 29 August 2000.

Housing cooperative flats up 26 per cent last year

Norwegian Federation of Co-operative Housing Associations (NBBL) statistics on prices of housing cooperative dwellings showed a price increase of 26.2 per cent from second quarter 1999 to second quarter 2000. NBBL's overall index rose 2.8 per cent from the first to the second quarter of this year.
