Moderate decrease in house prices

House prices fell by 0.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2001. On an annual basis house prices are 4.6 per cent higher than in the first quarter of 2000.

In Oslo/Bærum and the major cities of Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim house prices rose by 3.8 and 0.5 per cent respectively in the first quarter of 2001. In the rest of Akershus and the rest of the country the house prices showed a decrease of 2.4 and 1.9 per cent respectively, in the same period.

Prices of detached houses decreased

In the first quarter of 2001 the prices of detached houses showed a decrease of 2.7 per cent, while the prices of row houses rose by 0.4 per cent and flat prices rose by 3.9 per cent.

On an annual basis house prices outside of the major cities showed the largest increase last year, with 5.6 per cent. The house prices in Oslo are 3.6 per cent higher than in the first quarter of 2000. During the same period, prices in Akershus and the major cities rose by 1.9 and 2.8 per cent respectively.
