Price increase for computer consultancy

Prices of computer consultancy services rose by 6.3 per cent from the second quarter of 2006 to the second quarter of 2007. From the first quarter of 2007 to the second quarter of 2007, the increase was 1.4 per cent.

The main part of the increase in prices took place in the first and second quarter of 2007.

Computer consultants with the lowest competence level have experienced the largest increase in prices. From the second quarter of 2006 to the second quarter of 2007, the increase was 9 per cent for computer consultants with the lowest competence level. Computer consultants with the highest competence level had the lowest increase in prices.

Figure 2 shows the development in different computer consultancy categories. The indices for IT architects and advisers had the highest increase.

This is the first time Statistics Norway publishes a price index for computer consultancy services. The index is quarterly and contains data from the second quarter of 2006 to the second quarter of 2007.

The four competence levels are defined according to education and work experience.

Level 1: Relevant education and up to one year of experience.

Level 2: Relevant education and between one and three years of experience.

Level 3: Minimum three years’ education and at least eight years of experience.

Level 4: Expert competence and at least seven to twelve years of experience.
