Increase in computer consultancy prices

Prices of computer consultancy services increased by 6.8 per cent from the third quarter of 2006 to the third quarter of 2007. From the second quarter of 2007 to the third quarter 2007, the increase was 1.3 per cent. The differences in prices were larger by level of competence than by type of computer consultancy category.

All partial indices show an increase in prices from the previous quarter except for Programmers/systems programmers. The indices for IT architects and advisers have had the largest increase during the last year.

The strongest increase was seen for computer consultants with the lowest competence level. From the third quarter of 2006 to the third quarter of 2007, the increase in prices was 10 per cent for this group. In comparison, the prices charged by computer consultants with the highest competence level only increased by 3 per cent.

The four competence levels are defined by education and work experience.

Level 1: Education within the field and up to one year of experience.

Level 2: Education within the field and between one and three years of experience.

Level 3: At least three years of education and more than eight years of experience.

Level 4: Expert competence and at least seven to twelve years of experience.
