Low increase in consultancy prices

Prices of computer consultancy services increased by 5.9 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2006 to the fourth quarter of 2007. From the third quarter of 2007 to the fourth quarter of 2007, the increase was 0.3 per cent. This is considerably lower than the 1.3 per cent increase from the second to the third quarter.

The sub-index for programmers/systems programmers had the largest increase from the previous quarter. The indices for IT architects and advisers have had the largest increase over the past year.

The strongest increase from the third to the fourth quarter was seen for computer consultants with the highest competence level. From the fourth quarter of 2006 to the fourth quarter of 2007, the increase in prices was 9.8 per cent for computer consultants with the lowest competence level. In comparison, the prices charged by computer consultants with the highest competence level only increased by 2.0 per cent.

The four competence levels are defined by education and work experience.

Level 1: Education within the field and up to one year of experience.

Level 2: Education within the field and between one and three years of experience.

Level 3: At least three years of education and more than eight years of experience.

Level 4: Expert competence and at least seven to twelve years of experience.
