Low increase in consultancy prices

Prices of computer consultancy services increased by 0.4 per cent during the second quarter this year, a considerably lower growth than in the previous quarter. The year-on-year increase is 4.2 per cent.

Prices of computer consultancy services increased by 4.2 per cent from the second quarter of 2007 to the second quarter of 2008. From the first quarter to the second quarter of 2008, the increase was only 0.4 per cent. In comparison, prices increased by 2.2 per cent on a quarterly basis the previous quarter.

The sub-index for systems consultants had the largest increase from the previous quarter with about 1.4 per cent. The index for advisers has had the largest increase over the past year with 6.2 per cent.

Considering the price changes for different levels of competence, the strongest increase was seen for those with the lowest level of competence. This is particularly true for the year-on year changes. From the second quarter of 2007 to the second quarter of 2008, the increase was nearly 7 per cent for this group. In comparison, the prices charged by computer consultants with the highest competence level only increased by 2 per cent.

The four competence levels are defined by education and work experience.

Level 1: Education within the field and up to one year of experience.

Level 2: Education within the field and between one and three years of experience.

Level 3: At least three years of education and more than eight years of experience.

Level 4: Expert competence and at least seven to twelve years of experience.
