The price is connected to the quarter in which the local authorities register the construction work as completed and not at the time of entering into the sales contract. Therefore, the price index for new detached houses intercepts large changes in the market with a delay of almost one year.

Prices of detached houses increase 9.5 per cent

The prices of completed detached houses rose by 9.5 per cent from the second quarter of last year to the second quarter of this year. Prices increased 6.3 per cent from the first to the second quarter of this year. Corrected for seasonal variations the price increase was 4.0 per cent during the same period.

The price index for existing homes shows that the prices of existing homes rose 14.8 per cent during this period.

Compared with the bottom level reached in first quarter 1993 the prices of new detached houses have risen by 64.4 per cent. In comparison, the consumer price index has risen 17 per cent during the same period.

The statistics are published every quarter.
