The price is connected to the quarter in which the local authorities register the construction work as completed and not at the time of entering into the sales contract. Therefore, the price index for new detached houses intercepts large changes in the market with a delay of almost one year.

Prices of new detached houses up 1.2 per cent

Prices of new detached houses increased by 1.2 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2002 to the first quarter of 2003. Adjusted by seasonal variations the prices increased by 1.5 per cent.

From the first quarter of 2002 to the first quarter of 2003, the prices increased by 4.8 per cent. Prices of new detached houses reached a low point in the first quarter of 1993. Since then prices have increased by 91.1 per cent. In comparison, the consumer price index increased by 27.6 per cent during the same period of time.

A total of 571 observations have been used in the calculation of the price index.
