Prices of new detached houses unchanged

The prices of new detached houses increased by 0.2 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2003 to the first quarter of 2004. When adjusted for seasonal variation, the price growth was 0.3 per cent.

The prices increased by 2.4 per cent from the first quarter of 2003 to the first quarter of 2004. Since the prices of new detached houses reached a low point in the first quarter of 1993, the prices have increased by 95.6 per cent. In comparison, the consumer price index has increased by 25.4 per cent during the same period.

A total of 465 observations have been used in the calculation of the price index.
