Prices of new detached houses up 2.6 per cent

The prices of new-detached houses increased by 2.6 per cent from Q1 to Q2 of 2004.

When adjusted for seasonal variation, the price growth was 0.9 per cent. The prices increased by 2.2 per cent from the second quarter of 2003 to the second quarter of 2004. In comparison, the construction cost index for residential buildings increased by 2.8 per cent during the same period.

Since the price index for new detached houses reached a low point in the first quarter of 1993, prices have doubled. The consumer price index increased by 26.3 per cent during the same period.

A total of 405 observations have been used in the calculation of the index.
