Prices of new detached houses up 3.9 per cent
Prices of new detached houses increased by 3.9 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2005 to the fourth quarter of 2006. From the third to the fourth quarter of 2006, the increase was 1.4 per cent.
Adjusted for seasonal variations, prices of new detached houses increased by 1.9 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter last year.
Prices of new detached houses reached a record low in the first quarter of 1993. Since then, prices have increased by 130.8 per cent. In comparison, prices of second-hand detached houses increased by 196.1 per cent in the same period.
Annual growth 5.5 per cent
From 2005 to 2006, the annual price index for new detached houses increased by 5.5 per cent. This is based on the average of the quarterly indexes.
A total of 460 observations have been used in the calculation of the index for the fourth quarter of 2006.
