Price jump for new detached houses
Prices of new detached houses increased by 12.9 per cent from the first quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of 2007. This is the strongest annual growth that has been registered since Statistics Norway started the index in 1989.
The price index for new detached houses peaked at 12.9 per cent annual growth in the first quarter of the year. Annual growth is defined here as growth compared to the same quarter the previous year. From the fourth quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of 2007, the increase was 6.8 per cent. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the prices increased by a total of 8.1 per cent in the last quarter.
In comparison, prices of second-hand detached houses increased by 15.7 per cent from the first quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of 2007. The construction cost index for wooden detached houses shows a growth of 6.6 per cent in the same period.
A total of 498 observations have been used in the calculation of the index for the first quarter of 2007.
