Wholesale prices increased
The wholesale prices increased by a total of 4.6 per cent from the second quarter of 2003 to the second quarter of 2004. From the first to the second quarter of 2004 the wholesale prices increased by 1.5 per cent.
All of the six major industry groups within wholesale trade showed an increase in prices from the second quarter of 2003 to the second quarter of 2004. The wholesale prices of non-agricultural intermediate products, waste and scrap increased by 9 per cent, the highest increase during this period. This increase was due to increased prices of fuels and hardware, plumbing and heating equipment, up by 14.1 and 4.5 per cent respectively.
From the first to the second quarter of 2004 four of the six major groups within wholesale trade saw prices increase. The wholesale prices of non-agricultural intermediate products, waste and scrap had the highest increase with 4.0 per cent, while fuel prices increased by 5.4 per cent. The wholesale prices of food, beverages and tobacco and other wholesale both showed a marginal fall of 0.1 per cent from the first to the second quarter.
