Slight third quarter price increase
Prices on freight transport by road in Norway increased by 1.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2007. From the third quarter of 2006 to the third quarter of 2007, the increase in prices was 6.7 per cent.
The index shows the price development for the industry as a whole, as well as price developments for the transportation of six different freight types. The total industry increase in prices is related to higher prices in mainly three sub-indices; dry goods in bulk, frozen or refrigerated goods and mixed goods/container goods. These sub-indices rose by 2.2, 1.7 and 1.0 per cent respectively in the third quarter. The combined annual price change from the third quarter of 2006 to the third quarter of 2007 for transportation of mixed goods/container goods was 8.4 per cent. In addition, for frozen or refrigerated goods and other liquids and gases in bulk prices have risen by 6.4 and 9.0 per cent respectively.
The sub-indices show the price development for transportation of the following products: Frozen or refrigerated goods, petroleum products, other liquids or gases in bulk, mixed goods/container goods, dry goods in bulk and other transportation in special vehicle.
The sub-indices are weighted together in the main index using the industry turnover distributed on freight types as weights. With a share of almost 45 per cent, the freight type mixed goods/container is largest with regards to turnover. Other liquids or gases in bulk is the smallest freight type with 2.4 per cent of the total turnover. |
