EEA consumer prices rose by 2.0 per cent
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for the EEA was 105.6 (1996=100) in February, an increase of 0.6 per cent from January. From February 1999 to February 2000 the HICP increased by 2.0 per cent. The year to year growth in January was 1.8 per cent.
The increase is mainly due to higher prices of transport, education, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. Decrease in prices of communications pulled in the opposite direction.
The HICP for the European Monetary union was 105.2 in February, an increase of 0.4 per cent from January. The year to year growth in February was 2.0 per cent
For Norway the HICP in February was 109.0, an increase of 0.5 per cent from February. From February last year the prices have increased by 2.9 per cent.
