No change in harmonized index
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway was 114.2 (1996=100) in June 2001, the same as in May. From June 2000 to June 2001 the HICP increased by 3.3 per cent compared with 4.0 per cent in May.
From May to June the rentals for housing and tariffs on electricity increased. Also the prices of fresh fruit and vegetables went up, while prices of petrol decreased.
The HICP for the EEA was 109.5 (1996=100) in May, an increase of 0.6 per cent from April. The year to year change in May was 3.1 per cent. The HICP for the European Monetary Union was 109.4 in May, up 0.6 per cent from April. The year to year growth in May was 3.4 per cent.
Increase and decrease in the EEA
From May 2000 to May 2001 the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels have increased considerably. In the same period the prices of communications have dropped. Measured by the year to year growth in May, Iceland and the Netherlands had the highest price increase in the EEA by 5.6 and 5.4 per cent respectively.
