Harmonized index down to 1.9 per cent
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway was 112.8 (1996=100) in September 2001, an increase of 0.6 per cent from August. From September 2000 to September 2001 the HICP increased by 1.9 per cent while it was 2.2 per cent in August.
The increase from August to September is mainly due to higher rentals and higher prices of clothing and footwear. Increased petrol prices and higher educational expenditures contributed to the price growth in September as well. See the article for the Consumer Price Index for September for more details.
EEA-area
The HICP for the EEA was 109.4 (1996=100) in August, a rise of 0.1 per cent from July. The year to year change in August was 2.6 per cent, the same as last month. The HICP for the European Monetary Union was 109.4 in August and the year to year growth in August was 2.7 per cent.
The Nordic countries
Iceland had the highest price growth amongst the Nordic countries with 8.1 per cent measured by the year to year growth in August. In Iceland the prices of miscellaneous goods and services, food and non-alcoholic beverages and transport have increased considerably. Norway on the other hand had the lowest price rise of 2.2 per cent in the same period. Sweden, Finland and Denmark experienced price increases from 2.5 to 3.0 per cent.
