Slight increase in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway rose by 0.1 per cent from May to June 2008, mainly due to higher prices of goods and services related to transport. Lower prices of clothing, furniture and food pulled in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 106.2 (2005=100) in June 2008, compared with 103.1 in June 2007. The year-to-year growth was 3.0 per cent in June, compared with 2.8 per cent in May.

EEA, EU and euro area

The HICP in May was 108.7 for the EU and the EEA, compared with 108.2 in the euro area. The year-to-year growth in May was 3.9 per cent for both the EU and the EEA, and 3.7 per cent for the euro area. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro area was 4.0 per cent for June 2008.
