Higher prices on electricity and food

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway rose by 0.7 per cent from June to July 2008. This was mainly caused by higher prices of electricity and food. Seasonal sales on clothing and offers on hotel services pulled HICP in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 106.9 (2005=100) in July 2008, compared with 102.9 in July 2007. The year-to-year growth was 3.9 per cent in July 2008, compared with 3.0 per cent in June 2008.

EEA, EU and euro area

The HICP in June was 109.2 for the EU and the EEA, compared with 108.6 in the euro area. The year-to-year growth in June was 4.3 per cent for both the EU and the EEA, and 4.0 per cent for the euro area. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro area was 4.1 per cent for July 2008.
