Large increase in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway rose by 1.4 per cent from August to September 2008. The increase in HICP was mainly caused by higher prices of electricity, but the prices of clothing and transport also contributed substantially.

The HICP for Norway was 108.5 (2005=100) in September 2008, compared with 103.5 in September 2007. The year-to-year growth was 4.8 per cent in September 2008, compared with 4.1 per cent in August 2008. See the consumer price index for more details.

EEA, EU and euro area

The HICP in August was 109.0 for the EU, 108.9 for the EEA and 108.3 in the euro area. The year-to-year growth in August was 4.2 per cent for both the EU and the EEA, and 3.8 per cent for the euro area. Eurostat's flash estimate for the year-to-year growth in the HICP for the euro area was 3.6 per cent for September 2008.
