HICP up 0.1 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.1 per cent from February to March 2009. Clothing prices went up, while prices of electricity and books dampened the increase in the HICP.

Harmonized index of consumer prices

The HICP for Norway was 108.5 (2005=100) in March 2009, compared with 105.8 in the same month last year. The year-to-year growth was 2.6 per cent in March 2009 - down 0.2 percentage points from February. See the consumer price index for more details.

EEA, EU and the euro area

Provisional data for February 2009 shows that the HICP for the EU was 108.5, while the HICP for the EEA was 108.6. For the euro area, the HICP was 107.4 in this period. The year-to-year growth was 1.7 and 1.8 per cent for the EU and the EEA respectively, and 1.2 per cent for the euro area.

In the euro area, the year-to-year growth is estimated at 0.6 percent for March 2009.
