Strong increase in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 1.5 per cent from January 2010 to February 2010. Prices on electricity and airline fares increased the most, while prices on books fell.

The HICP for Norway was 111.8 (2005=100) in February 2010, compared to 108.4 in February 2009. The year-to-year growth was 3.1 per cent in February 2010, up 0.4 percentage points from January.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data for January 2010 shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 109.9 and 110.0 respectively, while the HICP for the euro area was 108.1. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in January was 1.7 for both the EU and the EEA while it was 1.0 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area the year-to-year growth for February 2010 was estimated at 0.9 per cent.
