Increase in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.5 per cent from February to March 2010. Prices on electricity increased the most, while prices on books fell substantially mostly due to the annual booksale.

The HICP for Norway was 112.4 (2005=100) in March 2010, compared to 108.5 in March 2009. The year-to-year growth was 3.6 per cent in March 2010, up 0.5 percentage points from February.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data for February 2010 shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 110.2 and 110.3 respectively, while the HICP for the euro area was 108.4. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in February was 1.5 per cent for the EEA and 1.4 per cent for the EU, while it was 0.9 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for March 2010 was estimated at 1.5 per cent.
