HICP down 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.5 per cent from June to July 2012. Lower prices of electricity including grid rent and garments contributed most to the decline.

The HICP for Norway was 112.7 (2005=100) in July 2012 compared to 112.9 in July 2011. This is equivalent to a fall of 0.2 per cent in the year-to-year growth, down by 0.2 percentage points from June.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for June 2012 show that the HICP for the EU and EEA was 118.4, while the HICP for the euro area was 115.8. The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for June was 2.6 per cent for the EU while it was 2.5 for the EEA and 2.4 per cent for the euro area. The year-to-year growth for July 2012 in the euro area is estimated at 2.4 per cent.

Detailed figures for July will be published on Eurostat’s website on 16 August.
