Increased special duties
The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway was 108.5 in January, an increase of 0.4 per cent from December. From January 1999 to January this year the HICP increased by 2.6 per cent. The year to year growth in December was 2.7 per cent.
The increase from December to January is due to increased special duties and higher rentals for housing. On the other hand there was a sale in January on clothes, shoes and furniture.
The HICP for the EEA in December was 105.2, an increase of 0.4 per cent from November. From December 1998 to December 1999 the HICP increased by 1.7 per cent.
Newly significant goods and services in the HICP
Out-patient services, day-care, insurance and several new elementary aggregates on education are newly significant goods and services that are included in the HICP from January this year.
Revised weights in the HICP
The weights in the HICP are revised yearly in January. We use annual weight updates based on average expenditure shares of the last 3 years, with data being obtained from the Statistics Norway annual household budget survey (HBS).
Monthly change in the rentals for housing from January 2000
From January this year the rent survey was included in the HICP (and in the consumer price index CPI) monthly, instead of quarterly.
The statistics is now published as Consumer price index.
