EEA consumer prices up 1.8 per cent
The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) for the EEA was 105.1 in January 2000, a decrease by 0.1 per cent from December. From January 1999 to January 2000 the HICP increased by 1.8 per cent compared with 1.7 per cent in December last year.
The increase is mainly due to higher prices of transport, recreation and culture. Decrease in prices of communication, food and non-alcoholic beverages pulled in the opposite direction.
The HICP for Norway in January was 108.5, an increase of 0.4 per cent from December. The year to year growth in January was 2.6 per cent.
The statistics is now published as Consumer price index.
