Marginal increase in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.1 per cent from November to December 2011. The main reason for this was higher prices of transport services, while the prices of electricity pulled in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 113.2 (2005=100) in December 2011, compared to 113.3 in December 2010. The year-to-year growth in December was -0.1 per cent, down 1.3 percentage points from November.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for November 2011 shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 116.4, while the HICP for the euro area was 114.0. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in November was 3.4 per cent for the EU, 3.3 per cent for the EEA, and 3.0 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for December 2011 is estimated at 2.8 per cent.

Detailed figures for December will be published on Eurostat’s website on 17 January.
