Marginal decrease in HICP

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.4 per cent from December 2011 to January 2012. Lower prices of clothing and footwear made the largest contribution to the fall, while prices of housing, water, electricity together with gas and other fuels pulled in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 112.7 (2005=100) in January 2012, compared to 112.4 in January 2011. The year-to-year growth in January was 0.3 per cent, up 0.4 percentage points from December.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for December 2011 shows that the HICP for the EU and the EEA was 116.8, while the HICP for the euro area was 114.4. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in December was 3.0 per cent for the EU and EEA, and 2.7 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for January 2012 is estimated at 2.7 per cent.

Detailed figures for January will be published on Eurostat’s website on 14 February.
