HICP up 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 0.5 per cent from September to October 2012. Increased electricity prices contributed most to the rise, while lower food prices pulled the HICP in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 114.0 (2005=100) in October 2012, compared to 113.1 in October 2011. The year-to-year growth was 0.8 per cent in October, up 0.7 percentage points from September.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for September 2012 show that the HICP for the EU and EEA was 119.0, while the HICP for the euro area was 116.4. The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for September was 2.7 per cent for the EU and 2.6 per cent for the EEA. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth was 2.6 per cent in September. The year-to-year growth for October 2012 in the euro area is estimated at 2.5 per cent.
