HICP up 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway rose by 0.5 per cent from August to September 2013. Higher prices of furniture, clothing and electricity contributed most to the increase, while lower prices of books and food pulled the HICP in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 116.4 (2005=100) in September 2013, compared to 113.4 in September 2012. The year-to-year growth was 2.6 per cent in September, down 0.7 percentage points from August.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for August 2013 show that the HICP was 120.0 for both the EU and the EEA, while the HICP for the euro area was 117.1. The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for August was 1.5 per cent for the EU and the EEA. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth was 1.3 per cent in August. The year-to-year growth for September 2013 in the euro area is estimated at 1.1 per cent.
