Growth in prices for legal activities in 2008

The prices for legal activities rose by 5.2 per cent last year. In 2007 and 2006 the corresponding increase was respectively of 5.0 and 4.3 per cent. The growth was strongest in the second half of 2008.

Between the fourth quarter of 2007 and the fourth quarter of 2008 the total index for legal activities shows a 5.5 per cent increase for the industry as a whole. The price growth was most noticeable for the foreign clients, who experienced an increase of 6.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2008 compared with the same quarter in 2007. The whole year seen as one shows that the prices for the foreign clients rose by nearly 6.0 per cent compared with 2007.

The price growth was also noticeable for business clients and private clients. The last quarter of 2008 shows that business clients experienced an increase of 5.0 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2007. For private clients the increase was 5.9 per cent in the same period.

Important announcement: New classification being implemented shortly

As of the first quarter of 2009, a new version of Norwegian industry classification (SIC2007) will be used. The classification is in accordance with the EC’s new NACE rev.2 classification. This enables comparability across borders.

The price index for legal activities will from now on be published together with all the price indices in the group of Business activities, which consists of sections for “Professional, Scientific and Technical activities” and “Administrative and Support service activities”.
