Increased consumer prices

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up 0.9 per cent from August to September this year. The increase is due to a rise in clothes prices, higher rents on houses and dwellings and increased tariffs on electricity.

The CPI for September this year was 102.6 (1998=100) and the year to year growth was 2.1 per cent. In August the year to year growth was 1.9 per cent.

Prices on clothes and shoes increased by 6.9 per cent from August to September after the annual summer sale.

Electricity prices to households rose by 5.9 per cent. The prices are still 1.3 per cent lower than the level in September last year. The energy companies have announced that the electricity prices will continue to rise in the coming months.

Rents on house and dwellings increased by 0.7 percent from 2nd to 3rd Quarter this year. The year to year growth on rents was 3.1 per cent.
