Small increase in the CPI
The CPI rose by 0.1 per cent from September to October 2010, mainly due to increased prices on electricity and clothing. From October 2009 to October 2010, the CPI rose by 2.0 per cent, while the CPI-ATE increased by 1.0 per cent.
The consumer price index (CPI) was 128.7 (1998=100) per October 2010, compared to 126.2 at the same time in 2009. This corresponds to a year-to-year growth of 2.0 per cent in October 2010, up by 0.3 percentage points from last month. The year-to year growth in the CPI-ATE was 1.0 per cent, up 0.1 percentage points from September 2010.
Prices increased little in October
The CPI rose by 0.1 per cent from September to October 2010. Prices on electricity including grid rent rose 1.6 per cent from the preceding month, and were the main reason behind the increase in the CPI. Prices on clothing rose in September, and continued to rise in October, however only by 0.9 per cent. In October it was especially prices of women’s clothing which rose. Other important contributors were prices on products and services related to housing - goods for maintenance and refurbishment rose 0.8 per cent, and imputed rentals for housing went up by 0.2 per cent. Fuels and lubricants showed a price increase of 1.0 per cent.
Air fares fell by 8.4 per cent from September to October. Among other important factors were reduced prices of food and telephone services of 0.6 and 1.8 per cent respectively.
CPI up 2.0 per cent the last twelve months
Prices on electricity including grid rent rose by 22.2 per cent from October last year, and were the most important contributor to the year-to-year growth. Imputed rentals for housing increased by 3.4 per cent in the same period. The prices on fuels and lubricants went up by 6.8 per cent. Prices on recreational and cultural services increased by 6.4 per cent.
Prices on clothing fell by 6.5 per cent from October last year to October this year. Lower prices were also recorded on air fares and audiovisual equipment by 10.1 and 4.3 per cent respectively.
The CPI rose by 0.1 per cent from September to October 2010, compared to a decrease of 0.2 per cent in the same period last year. This led to a rise in the year-to-year growth of 0.3 percentage points. The rise was mainly caused by rising prices on fuels and lubricants from September to October this year, while they fell the same period last year. Another contributor was the prices on food, which fell less from September to October this year than last year.
The year-to-year growth in the CPI-ATE rose by 0.1 percentage points from 0.9 per cent in September to 1.0 per cent in October.
