Highest rent increase for small dwellings

The Rental Market Survey shows that an average monthly rent for a 1-room dwelling amounted to NOK 3 734 in the third quarter of 2006, up 1.1 per cent from 2nd quarter. For larger dwellings the increase was smaller, and for the largest dwellings the rent decreased from the second to the third quarter of 2006.

Rents increased on average by 0.4 per cent from second to third quarter 2006 in the Norwegian rental market. Small dwellings went up the most, and for 1- and 2-room dwellings the rent rose by 1.1 and 0.6 per cent, respectively. The rent for dwellings with 5 or more rooms, on the other hand, decreased by 0.4 per cent in the same period, and average rent was NOK 5 109 in the third quarter.

There were only minor differences in rent development comparing different geographical areas. On average tenants in Oslo and Bærum paid NOK 6 360 in the third quarter, up 0.4 per cent from 2nd quarter.

The Rental Market Survey shows that tenants on average paid a monthly rent of NOK 4 615 or an annual rent of NOK 880 per sqm for a dwelling in the 3rd quarter 2006. See Rental Market Survey 2006 for more information.
