Higher food prices

Higher food prices contributed strongly to the 0.2 per cent increase in the total index from June to July. The 12-month rate turned out to be 4.1 per cent, which is a bit less than it was in June.

Higher prices of meat, products of meat, and vegetables were the most important causes for the index increase this month. The increase was fairly uniformly distributed over the domestic and import markets.

Among the vegetables, the potatoes had the strongest price increase. This is normal this time of the year when fresh potatoes take market share from cheaper stored potatoes. On the other hand, the group milk and butter showed a price decline 1st of July.

The group food and live stock increased totally by 0.7 per cent from June to July. This leads to a 0.2 per cent 12-month rate, which is the first positive rate since May last year.

Price decline of oil and oil products

The decline in the prices of imported oil products and crude oil had the opposite contribution to the index this month. E.g. the price of unleaded petrol at the London Spot Markets fell by 15.3 per cent from June to July, while the Brent Blend fell by 2.3 per cent measured in NOK.

Grouped after end use

The prices of consumer goods increased, like last month, by 0.2 per cent. The 12-month rate was 2.2 per cent. The prices of investment goods increased by 0.1 per cent during the last period and 1.1 per cent during the last 12 months.
