Minor changes in domestic prices
The price index of first-hand domestic sales rose by 0.1 per cent from September to October. The 12-month rate (October 1999 - October 2000) remained unchanged at 4.7 per cent. The greatest increase in prices came in the group mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials.
Prices in the group mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials increased by 0.4 per cent from September to October. This increase was mainly caused by a rise in prices of refined oil products. The rise was somewhat counteracted by falling petrol prices. On the London Spot Market the price of heavy fuel oil increased by 7 per cent from September to October (measured in NOK).
The group machinery and transport equipment was, with a 0.2 per cent increase, the second largest contributor to the rise in the total index. In addition there were minor increases in prices of both miscellaneous manufactured articles and chemicals.
Manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials represented the largest downward pull. The 0.4 per cent fall in this group was mainly due to declining prices of goods consisting of paper and paperboard, and non-metallic mineral manufactures.
According to end-use
Prices of both consumer goods and goods for investment showed a 0.1 per cent increase from September to October. The 12-month rate of consumer goods was 2.4 per cent.
