Oil and electricity prices up

The price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 0.6 per cent from January to February. This was mainly caused by an increase in the prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials. Lower prices of food, and machinery and transport equipment counteracted this effect.

Prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials increased by 1.7 per cent from January to February. The increase was due to higher prices of petroleum and petroleum products and electric current. Prices of food and live animals showed the strongest decline by 0.4 per cent. The main reason for this was a decline in prices of fish, crustaceans, mollusks and preparations thereof. The other main groups showed only minor changes.

The 12-month rate: 4,4 per cent decrease

The overall 12-month rate was -4.4 per cent. The change is mainly due to lower prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, and crude material. The decline in the former group was due to lower prices of petroleum and petroleum products. Crude material prices decreased due to lower prices of pulp and waste paper, and metalliferous ores and metal scrap.

Larger decline in the 12-month rate

The overall 12-month rate went from -3.0 per cent in January to -4.4 per cent in February. This reflects the downward tendency in prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related material found in the main international markets.
