Domestic prices up

After declining since May, domestic prices went up 1 per cent from July to August. The main reason for this development was increased prices of petroleum and petroleum products.

Among the main groups only mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials showed an increase compared with last month. The 4.9 per cent rise was due to higher prices of petroleum, petroleum products and electric current.

The largest declines occurred in crude materials and miscellaneous manufactured articles, where prices went down 1.1 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively. Food prices and chemical prices were unchanged compared with July.

12-month rate; lower prices for mineral fuels and crude materials

Compared with prices last August overall prices fell by 3.9 per cent. This was mainly due to lower prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, and crude materials. Increases in prices of food and miscellaneous manufactured articles reduced the total decline somewhat.

Development of the 12-month rate

Overall prices continue to be lower than in the corresponding period in 2001. However, the 12-month rate has showed some improvement and went from -6.5 per cent in June to -3.9 per cent in August.

The overall improvement was much due to the development in prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials. The 12-month rate for the latter group went from -22,3 per cent in June to -12,4 per cent in August.
