Increase in oil and electricity prices

The price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 1.9 per cent from August to September. This was mainly caused by an increase in prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, while lower prices of food counteracted this effect.

Prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials increased by 7.1 per cent from August to September. The increase was due to higher prices of petroleum and petroleum products and electric current. After declining the last two months prices of crude materials rose by 1.6 per cent. Prices of food and live animals showed the strongest decline - 0.6 per cent. Within this group most commodity groups showed decline. Machinery and transport equipment went down 0.3 per cent, while chemicals decline a 0.4 per cent in prices.

The 12-month rate: 2.2 per cent decrease

The overall 12-month rate was -2.2 per cent. The decline was mainly due to lower prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials and crude material. Lower prices of petroleum and petroleum products were the main reason for the decline in the former group.

Food and live animals, and miscellaneous manufactured articles showed the strongest increase by 0.4 and 0.5 per cent.

The development of the 12-month rate

The overall 12-month rate went from -3.9 per cent in August to -2.2 per cent in September. This reflects the development in prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related material, where the 12-month rate went from -12.4 per cent to -7.5 per cent. The development in prices of crude material, manufactured goods and miscellaneous manufactured articles also contributed to the overall change.
