Higher total index

The price index of first-hand domestic sales rose by 1.9 per cent from June to July. The main reason was higher prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related material.

Mineral fuels, lubricants and related material rose by 5.9 per cent. Electricity rose by 7.6 per cent, while the prices of petroleum and petroleum products had an increase of 8.3 per cent.

Crude materials increased by 3.1 per cent. This increase was mainly due to an increase in prices of metalliferous ores and metal scrap by 10 per cent. The group chemicals and related products decreased by 0.9 per cent. Food increased by 1.2 per cent. This increase was caused by higher prices of meat, vegetables and fruit.

The overall domestic market showed an increase of 1.4 per cent.

The 12-month rate, July 2002 - July 2003: Prices rose by 9.1 per cent.

The overall 12-month rate increased by 9.1 per cent. This development was mainly due to higher prices in the group mineral fuels, lubricants and related material where prices rose 24.8 per cent. Within this group, the price of electric current rose 80.3 per cent.

Prices of food went up 0.6 per cent compared with June 2002. This increase was caused by higher prices of meat, vegetables and fruit. Machinery and transport equipment decreased by 1.1 per cent. In this group the largest decline occurred in prices of office machines and data processing machines.
