Total index increased

The price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 0.6 per cent from September to October. This was mainly caused by an increase in prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials.

Prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials increased by 2.8 per cent from September to October. Electricity prices rose by 5.7 per cent, while for petroleum and petroleum products the increase was 2.9 per cent. Prices of crude materials decreased by 1.6 per cent. The main reason was the decrease in metalliferous ores and metal scrap of 4.4 per cent. Chemical products increased by 0.5 per cent. Prices of food decreased by 0.2 per cent. This decrease was caused by lower prices of imported vegetables, while meat prices counteracted this group's decrease.

Prices in the overall domestic market showed an increase of 0.6 per cent. The main reason was the increase in price of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials.

The 12-month rate, October 2002 to October 2003: 6.3 per cent increase

The overall 12-month rate increased by 6.3 per cent. This development was mainly due to higher prices in the group mineral fuels, lubricants and related material where prices rose 11.0 per cent. In this group, the price of electric current rose 45.6 per cent.

Prices of food went up 1.9 per cent compared with October 2002. This increase was caused by higher prices of meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Machinery and transport equipment increased by 1.1 per cent. In this group the largest increase occurred in prices of road vehicles.
