Lowest electricity prices since June 2003

The total index decreased by 1.6 per cent from November to December. The largest contributor to the decline was a 6.0 per cent drop in prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials

All of the main groups, except food, showed a decrease in December. Prices of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials decreased by 6.0 per cent from November to December. Prices of petroleum and petroleum products and electricity decreased by 6.8 and 4.7 per cent, respectably.

Precipitation and warm weather were the main reasons for the drop in electricity prices. Crude materials showed a decrease of 0.5 per cent. Lower prices of metalliferous ores and metal scrap were the main reason for the increase. Prices of food showed an increase of 0.1 per cent.

The overall domestic market showed a price decrease of 1.3 per cent. The main reason for this decrease was lower prices of petroleum and petroleum products by 5.2 per cent.

The 12-month rate, December 2003 to December 2004: 2.9 per cent increase

The overall 12-month rate showed that prices have increased by 2.9 per cent. The increase was mainly due to higher prices in all the main groups, except machinery and transport equipment. Petroleum and petroleum products went up 15.9 per cent. Crude materials went up 7.3 per cent, due to higher prices of metalliferous ores and metal scrap. Prices of food increased by 1.3 per cent compared with figures from December 2003, caused by higher prices of fish, dairy products, sugar, and coffee.

Manufactured goods increased by 5.8 per cent. The main reason was higher prices of iron and steel, 34.1 per cent.
