New leap in electricity prices
The spot price of electricity rose by 15.5 per cent from February to March, according to Nord Pool. Cold weather was one important reason to the rise. After the irregular low price level in January, prices of electricity have increased during the two months, and are close to the average of 2004.
The Price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 1.2 per cent from February to March. The main causes were the prices of petroleum and petroleum products and electric current, which rose by 11.2 and 8.1, respectively. The two main groups - crude materials and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials - increased by 0.7 and 9.7 per cent, respectively. The prices of the other main groups decreased. Prices of food decreased the most - down by 1.0 per cent. For the food the decrease in fish prices of 3.3 per cent contributed mostly, but also meat prices contributed with a decrease of 0.5 per cent.
The price increase in the overall domestic market came to 1.7 per cent. Also at domestic market this increase was due to the increases in the prices of petroleum and petroleum products and electric current. The increase was larger at the domestic market because these products have stronger weight.
